Systems Engineer

Are you interested in working with the latest technology and tools to build a robust and highly efficient SaaS platform? Are you more comfortable on the command-line than a GUI? Are you more likely script daily tasks than do them by hand? Then we have the opportunity for you!

As a Systems Engineer, you will be on the front lines of our production environments as we rapidly scale our cloud operations to support Apperian’s growth. You will be directly responsible for improving and automating code deployments, standardizing cloud orchestration, and generally getting the code our Development teams are cranking out into the hands of our customers in an efficient, reliable and secure manner.

Position responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and maintain Apperian’s cloud infrastructure.
  • Deploy software and configuration updates to production environments.
  • Enhance deployment processes and tools.
  • Investigate and resolve issues with production systems.
  • Enhance monitoring systems to improve situational awareness and responsiveness to detected error conditions.
  • Contribute to the architecture and build-out of the production environment to address scale and fail-over requirements.
  • Assist Development and QA teams with new tools and reports.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.

Qualifications – Applicants must possess the following skills and attributes:

  • 5+ years hands-on experience with Enterprise Linux systems administration.
  • Strong scripting skills (bash, Python, SQL, PERL, etc.).
  • Experience with design, development and testing of automated deployment scripts.
  • Experience working with cloud-based environments (AWS, OpenStack, etc)
  • Experience with configuration management and automated deployment (Puppet)
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members and clients.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to accomplish tasks with minimal guidance.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem solving skills.

Useful skills and experience:

  • Experience working with a 24×7, highly available, widely distributed production environment.

Customer Support Engineer

Want to work for Boston’s hottest mobile startup? We need an experienced Support Engineer to work with our customers in support of our flagship software-as-a-service product, EASE, the leading Enterprise Mobile App Management platform. Apperian’s Customer Support Team is a tightly knit group with a broad set of technical skills in SaaS, mobility, web technologies, and a passion for great customer service. We work closely with the rest of the Engineering Organization to deliver a quality, reliable and secure service to our customers.

As a Support Engineer, you will contribute to the success of our customers by providing to them technical assistance in all aspects of the service.

Some common tasks will include:

  • Issue triage, troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Submitting bug reports and feature requests to Product Development.
  • Assisting with production system upgrades.
  • Providing guidance and advice to customers on their use of EASE.

Qualified candidates must have:

  • 3-5 years experience in a customer-facing technical support role.
  • Experience with mobile devices and platforms (iOS, Android, etc.).
  • Experience with software-as-a-service (SaaS).
  • Excellent troubleshooting & organization skills.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • A proven ability to multitask and adapt to a fast paced environment.

In addition to the skills and experience above, any of the following will be useful in this role:

  • Knowledge of Xcode & the Apple app signing process.
