As CEO, David leads Apperian leveraging his extensive expertise and an impressive track record growing and scaling technology companies rapidly. His “customer-first” philosophy has driven the way Apperian has grown and will show in every way you touch our company.
Before leading Apperian, David was CEO of xkoto, a cross-platform enterprise database virtualization software company that was acquired by Teradata. Prior to xkoto, David was VP & GM at Novell, where he managed the $450 million division that included Novell’s SUSE Linux and Netware operating systems. David joined Novell as part of the acquisition of Ximian, a leading Linux and open source software company, where he was President and CEO. Prior to Ximian, David served as President of worldwide sales and operations for The Learning Company, an $800 million consumer software company acquired by Mattel in 1999, and as President of worldwide sales and operations at Mattel Interactive.
David holds a B.A. in Music from Berklee School of Music. When he’s not acting as Apperian’s “band leader”, David plays guitar in a popular Boston classic rock band, Unclaimed Freight.[more ...]
Chief Technology Officer
Carlos is Apperian’s CTO and our chief technical visionary. He has ultimate responsibility for our product direction and he brings a passion for translating customer challenges into remarkably innovation solutions.
Carlos has led engineering and product teams throughout his career, delivering innovation and value to customers and shareholders in companies ranging from startups to public software companies. Prior to joining Apperian, Carlos led several organizations at Novell, as VP of Engineering for ZENworks, CTO for the Identity Business Unit, and VP of Business and Product Management for SUSE Linux. Carlos joined Novell from Ximian, where he had been VP of Engineering. Prior to Ximian, he was Inktomi’s head of engineering operations in the Network Products and Wireless Divisions.
Carlos holds an S.B. in Electrical Engineering from MIT, a Masters in Government from Harvard University, and completed general management studies at Harvard Business School. Chief Sales Officer
Jeff Murphy is responsible for leading Apperian’s global customer teams from Field Sales through Support. He brings decades of experience building and leading world-class, customer-focused teams and he doesn’t rest until our customers –both current and potential– are satisfied.
Prior to Apperian, Jeff was Senior Vice President, Global Sales at Endeca Technologies. As a member of the leadership team, he played a key role rebuilding the sales organization and transitioning the company to a multi-business unit organization. This transition enabled impressive growth for Endeca in multiple markets and directly contributed to the company’s acquisition by Oracle its sixth largest acquisition ever at the time. Prior to Endeca, Jeff held numerous sales leadership roles at companies such as SAP, Oracle, Storage Networks and Yantra, and his involvement at those organizations directly contributed to rapid growth, record sales and noteworthy IPOs and acquisitions.
At the University of Massachusetts Jeff majored in Business Administration. In his spare time… actually, Jeff has no spare time. As Apperian’s chief road warrior, Jeff spends every waking moment meeting with customers and partners across the globe – or on con calls from the beaches of Cape Cod, Naples, Florida, or somewhere in between.

Chief Marketing Officer
As CMO, Mark establishes and guides the company’s go-to-market strategy to continue moving Apperian and our customers “up and to the right.” He ensures the customer’s voice is omnipresent and that every company message and interaction reflects the value that we deliver to our customers and partners.
Prior to Apperian, Mark was VP of Marketing at TIBCO Software, leading the marketing organization for the Spotfire Analytics Division following Spotfire’s acquisition by TIBCO. The Spotfire platform was widely recognized as one of the most visionary and fastest growing analytics platforms in the marketplace. He also held leadership positions at PeerDirect and NuSphere (both acquired by Progress Software), iConverse, an early mobile application development platform, and Accenture.
At Syracuse University Mark majored in Economics and Marketing and he earned an M.B.A. from Franklin W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College. Chief Financial Officer
Brian Day is Apperian’s CFO. He brings more than 20 years of experience in financial and operational functions, with special strengths in customer, partner and investor relations, contract negotiating and general management activities.
Brian joined Apperian after serving as Chief Financial Officer of Goal.com prior to Goal.com’s acquisition by Perform Media PLC in February 2011. Prior to Goal.com, Brian held financial and general management positions with several venture-backed Companies in the Boston area including SiCortex, Inc., Gomez, Inc. and Octave Communications. Brian began his career with Fleet Financial Group where he was a Vice President in the Bank’s structured finance group.
Brian has a B.A. in Economics from the University of New Hampshire, and a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in Boston. As Apperian’s chief sailor, Brian hosts company meetings on Boston Harbor and helps the company to confidently navigate its financial waters.

Senior Vice President of Products
As Apperian’s head of Product, Alan is responsible for crafting and guiding the company’s product roadmap and leveraging technological innovations to solve enterprise mobility challenges for our customers and partners more swiftly than any alternative available. Period.
Before joining Apperian, Alan was VP of Product Management at Novell. During his tenure there, he oversaw Novell’s Systems and Resource Management Business Unit and the Identity and Security Management portfolio, building on strong strategic acquisitions. Prior to joining Novell, Alan worked for GE Capital as an Enterprise Solution Architect, where he utilized his deep knowledge of ASP and broadband, applications on-demand and application leasing models.
Alan holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University. When not in Engineering scrum meetings, Alan can be found “soaring” the thermals in a glider high above New England.[more ...]
Senior Vice President of Business Development
Cimarron leads Apperian’s global business development efforts and is responsible for developing new routes to customers, establishing and supporting our partnerships, and working with leading ISV and OEM partners.
“Cim” has worked in technology for over 25 years, providing creative and visionary leadership for products and services in the technology, web and mobile areas. Prior to Apperian, he worked with Texterity, a major provider of digital editions, and built a product, sales, and marketing organization that led the digital magazine industry by providing solutions to B2B, trade association, and consumer publications. Cimarron was also GM Internet Products at FaxNet, leading the group which was responsible for Internet messaging solutions for the telecom industry.
Cim holds a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Cim is Apperian’s “ultimate” fan! Quite literally, he loves Ultimate Frisbee.[more ...]
Chuck founded Apperian in 2009 and he tirelessly leads some of the company’s strategic initiatives and business development efforts. He’s in the field whenever possible, evangelizing enterprise mobility and absorbing industry trends and customer needs.
Prior to founding Apperian, Chuck spent eight years as a Director at Apple, Inc where he helped integrate Apple technologies into Apple’s largest education and enterprise customer infrastructures. Chuck led Apple’s iPhone Enterprise Beta Program and helped Apple’s earliest adopters leverage iOS to empower a mobile workforce since the day it launched. Chuck was also founder and CEO of Interactive Media Solutions, the leading provider of next-generation online recruiting tools for colleges and universities. At IMS, Chuck created America’s first “virtual open house” where students, faculty, and staff communicated in real-time and conducted virtual online leader-led campus tours.
Chuck holds a B.A. in Law from the University of Massachusetts. Chuck is passionate about uncovering new opportunities in enterprise mobility… a close second is his eagerness to sing at company meetings.[more ...]
