Pre-sales Software Engineer

We are looking for a Pre-sales Support Engineer with 3-5 years experience in Mobile platforms (iOS and Android) cloud technologies, network security, or systems management solutions, experience selling to F1000 accounts. This candidate must have a strong desire to be a major contributor in a small company environment providing pre-sales technical support to our North American field and inside sales team.

Expect approximately 20% travel with the majority of work conducted from our Boston, MA headquarters.

You will be responsible for proactively driving and managing the technology evaluation aspect of the sales process and securing a technical product “win” in coordinated effort with our sales team. You will also respond to pre-sales technical inquiries related to products, architecture and implementation, and you will actively participate in day-to-day sales activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

Prepare and deliver technical presentations and demonstrations.
Act as technical liaison to insure prospect satisfaction through effective diagnosis and resolution of technical issues throughout the sales cycle.
Maintain and communicate account technical status to the software sales and leadership teams.
Perform other related technical projects as assigned.

Requirements:

BS/BA degree
Minimum 3-5 years pre-sales experience in one or more of the following areas: application security, VPN, remote access and administration, help desk support, or IT administration tools.
Excellent relationship building and communication skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Must be self-organized and disciplined.
Experience with Mobile platforms (iOS, Android, Black Berry) a plus.

Systems Engineer

Apperian is looking for a highly motivated Systems Engineer to support and evolve its growing infrastructure, including Apperian’s production environment, QA/Dev environments, and office network.

Position responsibilities will include:

Designing, configuring and operating application monitoring systems (e.g.,Cloudkick, Nagios) to improve situational awareness and responsiveness to detected error conditions.
Designing, building and managing virtual machine templates to improve and standardize deployment of systems into Apperian’s various hosted environments.
Working with product development teams to create custom monitoring and reporting scripts.
Selecting, building, deploying, and operating software distribution mechanisms to standardize the software update process.
Contributing the architecture and build-out of the production environment to address scale and fail-over requirements.
Implementing robust backup and DR processes to protect production databases and fileserver content.
Administering corporate network infrastructure, including Cisco networking devices, VPN server, internal servers (DNS, file), printers, etc.
Some IT support for non-engineering personnel.

Requirements:

1+ years experience installing, configuring, and administering enterprise-grade Linux deployments.
Experience operating and administering LAMP deployments.
Experience implementing and managing open source monitoring tools.
Experience with open source databases (e.g. Postgres, MySQL).
Strong scripting skills (bash, PERL, Python, PHP).
Experience with Mobile platforms (iOS, Android, Black Berry) a plus.
Self-motivated and the ability to accomplish tasks with minimal guidance.
Attention to detail.
Strong diagnostic and problem solving skills.
Comfortable working in a small, fast-paced environment.
Strong communications skills.

Useful skills and experience:

Experience with Cloud hosting providers or virtualization technologies (e.g. Amazon Web Services, Rackspace Cloud, VMWare).
Experience with Debian Linux.
Experience configuring Cisco networking devices.
